Dirty Dog Hauling
Owner: Leland Nelson
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Business: Regional Junk Removal
Purpose of Loan: Start-Up Costs and Vehicle Purchase
Impact: Economic Security
One man’s trash proved to be another man’s opportunity for Leland Nelson. Having recognized a need for junk removal services in inner city Harrisburg, Leland developed a plan to launch his own business called Dirty Dog Hauling. All he needed was financing to get his business started. However, like many aspiring African-American entrepreneurs, he struggled to find a traditional bank that would approve a loan. Eventually, he connected with Community First Fund and completed the application process. Soon after, we provided him with financing to purchase his first dump truck and cover various start-up costs.
After a decade of growth and success, Dirty Dog Hauling expanded to cover counties in the entire mid-state region. Needing to replace his aging fleet of vehicles, Leland returned to Community First for assistance. We were happy to finance the purchase of three new trash collection trucks that allowed him to expand his business and provide service to more clients.
Dirty Dog Hauling continues to thrive and has earned a reputation for their quick and courteous service, consistent professionalism, and focus on customer satisfaction.
